Every year, about this time, I think to myself, “I need to do a Vata Season check-in.” In fact, a little bird (maybe a Chickadee) told me this year to check my Archive because that title sounded vaguely familiar.
Lo and behold, I found this post from last year, which pretty much says it all!
I highly suggest reading the post above if you feel extra anxious and/or fearful while simultaneously gloriously creative. It could just be Vata Season energy. It’s silly of me to repeat it all in this post.
I AM feeling gloriously creative and ALSO anxious because I can’t keep up with the creative ideas. It’s a conundrum because Vata-types are generally highly creative but often lack organizational skills.
Enter the Chickadees!
The sweet wee Black-Capped Chickadees arrive during Vata Season and stay for the duration.
I’ve decided that they are also very Vata in nature.
Every morning at dawn, I go outside to put the feeder out and they are waiting in the now barren Willow shrub between my patio and woodpile. I can stand just a few feet from them for minutes, and they don’t startle or fly away. They are very friendly and curious, and when they fly to the feeder (they’ve almost run into me multiple times!), their wings make a loud and very strong vibration.
I wonder if they tire easily after their morning routine. If they expend energy quickly like the Vata individual.
At any rate, watching them and calling back and forth with their “Chick-a-dee-dee-dee” sound calms my anxious Vata tremendously. It gives me a good start to the day.
I’m trying to be patient with myself and know when to rest my nervous system and not spiral into a creative tornado.
This week will be particularly challenging as the H word is in full swing. That’s short for “Holiday,” if you didn’t get the reference.
Here’s another oldie but goodie:
I dread most things about this season and prefer to sink into my creativity and/or a few good books rather than succumb to the hysteria of Black Friday, Cyber Monday, etc., post-Thanksgiving.
But I won’t repeat what I said about Vata Season and the Holidays in this post other than to warn you that another post is on its way in which I seem to contradict what I just said.
In truth, I’d planned to put this surprise out into the world a month ago, not just a few days before the holiday season kicked off.
When you read the post I’m about to send, please bear in mind that in everything I do, I’m still an artist at heart - with almost zero marketing and sales abilities.
I hope everyone glides through the season with ease. Many of you love the holidays, and to that, I say, lucky you! and Happy Holidays! I truly am not the Grinch or Ebenezer Scrooge - just nurturing my nervous system as best I can.
I have written a lot about this dosha that I know so well, and just like I’ve learned to recognize the warning signs and make adjustments, so can you!
Much Love
Barbara

I had never heard chickadees before! They’re quite cheeky!
Your Vata energy is radiating right now, Barbara! I wish I can be a Bly on your wall or even a chipmunk on your parch to watch you creating and whistling away!
lol, “H” season. Sounds like something you contract being naughty.
Your posts never fail to make me happy, Barbara. Those chickadees!
And the 'H' season.
I had morning coffee in bed, waited for the first bird sounds - late, 6:29! - and thought of about 6 different ideas for a post, couldn't seem to write a thing. (Well, a poem I don't actually understand so I'll spare my readers.)
Gave up, checked my email, and saw this which I smiled through.
The world is better for you. Thank you. Happy "H" season, dear friend.
