Delightful as always to hear you read your post. I often wonder if and when I will ever hit my stride my core self and balance all the things out. Maybe one day I will.... I sure hope so. Reading and hearing your medicine post help me ground and calm if even for a second. It's like heaven and a warm cup of tea.
Oh, my dear friend, I wish that for you, as well. It was not all rosy in the years leading up to finding my way here to this sanctuary, and you played a monumental role in helping find it. I am forever grateful to you, Robin. Much love. The woods and I await your visit. 🐻 🌲🌲🌲 XO
WOWZA! First snow photo is to die for--so lovely, I was blown away. Yup you have done well fer yourself, girl, when you moved to such an idyl of a place to rest/heal/learn/restore.
this is the first anni. of reading your substack as well, I recall that article on Christmas being a more than alarming event in the life of a Vata. I was hooked so happy one year of friendship. hip hip hurray!
as well, loved the rest of post-----since retirement from the public and doing my own thing, my thing turns out to be isolating, going into the woods, however metaphorically you want to explain...At the first sign of frivolous behavior, the "shop for stuff U do not need mindset, I go inwards and no it doesn't mean an austere holiday, just one where the winter season is celebrated as it was intended to--cold weather, nocturnal isolation and silence to think one's thoughts, preferably with nature being one's only companion? kind of hoping heaven might be like that; ya know what I mean?....happy happy be happy..............
I love your comments so much, Jeanne. You really seem to "get me." Thank you! Today is my third year anniversary of moving in here and I'm trying to get something written but the gorgeous day outside is beckoning me. Much love to you, my Nature-loving Substack friend. 🌲🌲XO
do U want to know what interests me currently is---- the story of the maimed fisher king....by t s Eliot..............do U or your readers know anything about that story to add to the myth (I think its related to the holy grail and Galahad, as well).
hugs to you as well, Matie, was trying to think of something clever like... 'only-ever-e-mail.' ...or possibly 'best mail-ever'......here's a simpler one..-----.ever-email---!!!
ME Clever??---Nope! ain't gonna happen; you get what you get.
hasta la vista, senorita, have a lovely day of Divali, Indian festival of the light, begins today. light a candle, some incense, eat a sweet is my Wish for your Diwali night. enjoy this world as old and tired as it seems to be. there is still much beauty if that is the ultimate of life, the culmination of and love of beauty/intellect/divine nature. another conundrum, I am faced with; what are we here for? I would like to know the reason for all this trouble we go through to survive. Is beauty/love of nature, music that tears one's heart asunder by the unheard sound of it, , literature--a few fine phrases to savor...there has to be a deeper meaning to why are we here? although that in itself is reason to want to grow old with grace; to enjoy great love of the beautiful in the living worlds is to my mind a great redemptive thing to do.,
well, two mysteries we need to ponder and solve........... or not?
1. what is the trouble with our maimed fisher king?
I think I missed Diwali, but I did indulge in some dark chocolate sea salt caramels, so...
I'm embarrassed to admit this but I was addicted to the British show "The Adventures of Merlin" (I love everything about the Arthurian legend whether cheesy or not). Anyway, the Fisher King was in one of the episodes. I will check out the book! xoxo
NEVER saw it cheesy or not, I too am an Arthurian freak.; I may rent a few episodes to see what it's all about. That isn't the show where Merlin is played by that fab Aussie actor, Sam Neill is it?
hey Barbara, going to mail you a Diwali 'zine I made a few years ago, now reviving it 'cause of a whole set of new friends who were not there the first time it was sent around. enjoy--
Northern Michigan is beautiful (minus mountains.) If it makes you feel any better, I couldn't sit in those chairs from Mid-May until Mid-August because of the biting bugs. :(

Diwali is a 5-day festival, beginning this year on Nov. 12th.

Man, and I thought I had a good view here in northern Michigan.

Hi J.R. - I'm sure that will be changing before we know it!
