I also have an irrational fear of mice, from my mother’s fear of the same. I’ve learned not to be so afraid of them thanks to my kids, but I’ve done a number of crazy jump on furniture dances in my time. I love the reframe the tarot offered.

Hi, Amanda! The crazy mouse jump, a la Lucy. :) At least you have other people in the house to deal with them! My kids had hamsters and they were cute (no tails!) but I never wanted to hold them. Of course there were always the escapes... :(

I am not a fan of mice, but our solution is even more alarming to me. We have had a black snake move into our basement. The mice are gone and I don't look too closely at anything when I head down to the basement. Not dangerous but I am super scared of snakes. My husband and son say it is getting bigger :)!

😮😮😮 Pam!! It's you! I miss you. But, OMG about the snake. 😮 It's so interesting about our individual animal fears. One of my most important dreams was of a big black snake. I'm not really afraid of them, but they have that startle factor, like mice. Yesterday, a black bear was in my front yard, about twenty feet from the house. I was aware that I wasn't feeling any fear (I was in the house.) I opened the door and said "Hey! What are you doing here?" and he looked at me and turned and hobbled off! But, a tick or a mouse?? Forget it. My advice...send your son or husband on basement errands! xo

Hi Barbera, i enjoy your stories.

And i particulary love this one !

Mouse. Mice. I have had dozens invading my spaces. And yes, i kill them (with poison, electric). Or my dogs will get them. I still have find a cat that can live respectedly with my dogs. My dogs are rural and hunt anything that moves :)

On another level there is this story about Ganesh, the Hindu God with the elephant head. His helpers : mice.

Kind regards,

Leo.

Oh, Leo. I love this comment so much. I'm a renter and can't have a dog or cat. I would love a dog. Although, many years ago I remember being traumatized by an elusive mouse and our two big dogs, a Lab and a Golden Retriever, were CLUELESS. Weeks later I noticed a smell and finally located it inside the piano. :( No thanks to the dogs...

Yes, I know of Ganesh, but didn't know his helpers were mice. :) Honestly, maybe if I meditate on that something will shift. Thanks for sharing that and thanks for reading. I was a little embarrassed posting it!

the two explanations i like :

1. Did Ganesh ride a mouse?

Why is Ganesh on a rat?

Ganesha gained his animal vehicle, the rat, after fighting the demon Gajamukha. Rather than killing the demon, Ganesha cursed him, throwing his right tusk at Gajamukha, and transforming him into a rat. He then mounted the rat, keeping it forever under his control.

- ref : Why does Ganesha ride a rat? – Story - Symbolism - Hindu Blog :

2. Which Indian elephant God has a mouse?

Ganesha is potbellied and generally depicted as holding in his hand a few round Indian sweets, of which he is inordinately fond. His vehicle (vahana) is the large Indian bandicoot rat, which symbolizes Ganesha's ability to overcome anything to get what he wants.

- ref : Ganesha | Meaning, Symbolism, & Facts - Encyclopedia Britannica :

In other words : if we acknowledge our (personal) underworld, we can work together and achieve our goals in life. Ganesha is also considered the remover of obstacles. In some countries in Asia he is the first to be prayed to in the morning by the owners of their shop (please get me some custiomers).

Warm greetings,

Leo.

I will pray to Ganesha to gather his mice from my barn... :)

I was behind the barn with my 6 year old son and husband when a mouse jumped off the wood pile and landed smack on my foot. I screamed one of those blood curdling screams while my husband shouted, “step on it,” ! Really, are you crazy…I’m never gonna step on a body. After we all settled down from the freaking show, my son said…”that was scary”. I said, “I know, I wasn’t expecting a mouse to jump out at me.” My said said, “ not that….your scream was scary.!” Lol.

That's another near heart attack story! Lol, your son - that's hilarious! At least you had your husband there, although, it doesn't sound like he was much help! 😂

I have a friend whose husband gets the dead mice put in his slippers. Made him laugh. Said the cat thinks it’s big game hunting and brings to him as a trophy. The mice I do think are far more scared of us. But, I do understand.

Oh man. I'd be checking my slippers every night, for sure. Maybe that's the reason I've never had a cat...

Hilarious!!! I love it. So, while I don't like to see mice... I find them to be the cutest things ( along with every other animal in existence). I cry when my cats get them.... it makes me so sad. Don't be afraid of the barn. Its to beautiful and cozy 💓

I likewise have a cat that brings them to me. Once alive in my bed in the middle of the night! It was unnerving, but I'm more afraid of spiders!

You better go back in that sweet little barn! I love that barn! 💞

Tina, I would DIE if that happened to me. Isn't that funny, I'm not afraid of spiders at all. I once put my robe on when I was at a cottage and a huge spider was in the sleeve and gave me a nasty bite. IDK, they're slow so they don't startle me! We're funny creatures, we humans, aren't we?

Think of Beatrix Potter and imagine how that little mouse feels when it sees giant you! I scared a nursing mother mouse when I opened the grain box in our horse barn when the kids were little. It was precious to see the babies. They don’t move like mama mouse though!!

No worries! I loved hearing about everyone else's animal paranoia! And I wasn't having trouble falling asleep because of YOUR story, I couldn't sleep because I was thinking about the mouse! :)
