What beautiful photography! And I love what you shared about that old white pine and her adopted family of other tree species. I think you are doing what Lyanda would describe as "return(ing) to be claimed" in Rooted. I just finished re-reading it for the second time through and I was really moved by the way she explores recognizing non-human (plant, animal and fungal) ways of being and forms of intelligence, as well as her elaborations on the act of befriending trees. I think you have a great many friends in the beautiful forest by your place and I sense that the ancient photosynthetic beings adore you and appreciate your presence in their lives greatly.
I especially liked your pictures of the elemental friendly mossy/lichen covered areas.
Thx the reminder about βRootedβ, Gavin! ! I started it but it got lost in a pile of books. Iβm spending hours on end lately out there and itβs been incredible. Exploring, finding streams and animal homes everywhere. So much Magic! I hope they love me as much as I love them. I sing a lot while Iβm meandering. π§ββοΈπ²π»π
Here is a pic of the page from "Rooted: Life at the Crossroads of Science, Nature, and Spirit" by Lyanda Lynn Haupt that described "returning, to be claimed" (in reference to trees).
Omgggg! Reading to a Tree!! Yes!! Iβve named a Tree, Merlin, because it looks so magical and the area reminds me of a scene from Camelot. Especially when it snows. Maybe heβd like to hear a tale about King Arthur??! π³ π§ π
It is funny you should say that, as another section of the chapter I shared a pic of above, talks about "True Naming" ( https://archive.org/details/img-1886_20231222/IMG_1897.JPG ) ;) Yes I think your rooted friend would love to hear about King Arthur.
You know (along with meaning Hawk from it's latin root) my name is based on Gawain (the Green Knight of the round table and said to be one of King Author's closest companions) :)
I think I shall try reading to a meandering river next time I am blessed to be able to visit one. That way the essence of the story I read can be carried in the receptive water molecules to the ocean, the clouds, the glaciers and mountain streams.. becoming one will all beings in time.
Idk if you watch any tv but Iβm pretty obsessed with the BBC show βThe Adventures of Merlin.β Itβs now on Amazon Prime under βMerlin.β The first few episodes are pretty cheesy but itβs so good once it gets going. Itβs a completely different spin on Merlin. And of course all the knights are in it, including Gawain. π§ π§ββοΈπ₯°
I am longing to get some time with nature. Maybe tomorrow.
I have a busy week ahead preparing for my daddy's memorial service and being around family, which some of them are undesirable. I will think of your walk in the woods.
Aww, so sorry about your dad, Rosemary. Maybe you will think of your laughing fit at the Quaker funeral and you and he will have a chuckle. You never know... A walk in the woods would surely help with the family energy. It always does. Good luck! xo
Mmmm! I LOVE LOVE LOVE your photography, not to mention your wonderful way of bringing Nature, my Ultimate Love, into sharp focus through words as well.
Oh, my dear, thank you for this, it is sooooo exactly what I need, too, and to find it online is a real treat.
Yes, there are elementals!
And my favorite is just about anything, just outdoors, and outrageously, almost anything that's part of Gaia. YAY!
Nothing takes us away from ourselves as a dive into our true nature. Being in nature, creating art, tending animals, garden and helping others. All pathways to feeling grateful and blessed. Trees are also at the top of my list, and perhaps my son feels that too. When he was young he once told me...."if I ever get a tattoo it will be of a tree." Sweet. Thank you Barbara, always so well lived, said and shared.
I love this so much! For me, when life feels too much the antidote is always nature. Anywhere really, but Iβm most at home in a mossy mixed forest with pines and sycamores. Itβs always the trees for me. There was a special little beach on Swanβs Island, Maine. A little hike through a mossy wood dumped you straight out onto a fine sand beach, also the name of the place. Flanked by granite slabs, and rarely visited, it was the perfect place to find sand dollars and explore the tide pools. That place was so special!
Oh, my!! That sounds magical, Amanda! I wonder how far it is from here. Will have to investigate... Thank you for reading/listening, my Nature-loving friend. Any yes, the Trees are always at the top of my list, too. π
We started our travels there. Signed the papers and handed over the keys to our old house, and drove straight there. I cried and cried when we left. I had spent 6 weeks there and wouldβve stayed forever. I loved it so so much. And dream of returning as soon as I can.

Incase you missed it, I wrote an in depth article a while back that explores the magical realms of our elders in the Queendoms of Moss and Lichen https://gavinmounsey.substack.com/p/tiny-beings-offering-immense-wisdom
Sending much love to you and your rooted friends! <3

I just found this.

Great photos, Barbara. I may steal one or two to paint this winter! I miss you and Robin! I long to be gathered with you ladies again!
Thx, Tina! Maybe we'll have a reunion soon! πππ

Thank you, Jaan! She truly is a gift that keeps on giving! πππ
Thank you for the little " get away". I started work back after 6 weeks. Still have major healing to do. This was just what I needed. Xoxoxo
Hey luv! Swift healing, my friend.Thx for always taking the time to read. Big hugs of Nature! π

And you can stop over in New Hampshire, hint hint!! ππ
Wouldn't that be the loveliest walk in the woods together?! I will hope for that to happen.
So lovely! π²π²π²π§ββοΈπ
Thank you for reading, J.R.! ππ
