You're a better man than I, Barbara! We took New Hampshire off the list for potential homes for two reasons, and one them was the bugs!! I so admire your resilience....
I totally get that, Mary! When I came here to look in October NH was in its fall splendor and no one mentioned BUG SEASON to me. It's truly monstrous. I should just stay inside and get my book written. I don't understand how people work outdoors here! XO
Late getting here, per usual! I always love your posts. But I don't know if I've mentioned that I love your photos, too. So... pleasant, wandering through your world, even if it is in a very "virtual" way.
Love your writings Barbara! Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos & woodland journeys. The Dragonfly is awsome, I've never seen one in those colors. I have several in my garden, Nature is my retreat.
Nature just wants a piece of you, doesn’t it? My ma used to say, oh the mosquitos bite you more than others because you taste so darn sweet! But what solace is that when you’re up all night scratching like crazy? I think it’s worth whispering to those beautiful dragonflies (gosh- I’ve never seen one that looks like that!!) to surround you on your walk and keep the pests away. Maybe you can be the dragon fly whisperer at Gone Away.
Thank you for sharing your journeys with us, dear Barbara. Always a treat!
Sweet meat for the bugs, we are, Tonika! :( That spectacular Dragonfly was on the patio with me and hung around posing for quite a while. Today, at the Pond, sitting on a rock, I slipped off my protective gloves (how ridiculous) to take yet another photo of Gone-Away. I heard a loud buzzing and felt something big land on me - it was either a Hummingbird or a Dragonfly, but I startled and he or she flew away. I definitely feel a Dragonfly post coming on! I have lots of history with them, even in the big city. What an honor it would be to be a D Whisperer!
Thank you, luv, for reading and commenting. I always love when your energy lands on my page. 💚 XOXO
Talking of deer flies....... A little deer comes to visit the woods next to my house every day. At the moment he comes with a swarm of flies round his antlers. Last month was worse as he had a face full of ticks! So for me to interact with him I have had no choice but to ignore the bugs!!
Oh my goodness, Kirsty. I meant to mention the poor animals in my post. I feel silly complaining knowing how ravaged they are during the summer months. The deer, bears, moose, horses, etc. At least I can be a Nature dork and wear netting. They don't have any protection. I heard an herbalist talking about how healthy animals in the wild don't get sick from tick bites - only if their health is already compromised. A theory they were offering, that the healthier we humans are, the easier it will be to stay healthy after bites, etc.
Thx for reading and leaving a comment. Hello to the little deer in the woods, from Barbara in New Hampshire! 💚💚
This little sika deer has much to cope with....he is missing a back hoof!!
I got to know him after you inspired me to sit under a collection of magical trees last samhain. I left an offering for my ancestors of some apples and have been feeding him ever since! It was only recently that I have been close enough to see why he walks with a limp.
It was not my intention to make you feel silly. I will let him know you said hello. 💚
I started reading, looking for symbolism in the title with some hidden meaning that you longed to return to the primordial goo of existence but after a second reading, I’m pretty certain it was just a very pleasant retelling of how you enjoyed nature without letting nature enjoy you. Thank you.
I have never seen such a dragonfly...amazing. And I have joined you in my lack of vanity. Sometimes I need something from the store and I go there, "as is." Which usually means work pants, garden boots and sweat on my brow. No one cares. My mother would have cared but that generation has passed. I suspect we are only getting more carefree with our wardrobe. You may just be a trend setter? I remember dropping my kid off at Junior High school and asking him,."is it pajama day at school today?" He would say, "no judging mother." Of course he was right. It just took me longer to get hip. Lol.
This made me laugh...thinking about how horrified some older people must be when they get on a plane today and it looks like lots of travelers in pjs. Full sized pillows and all. :) Personally, I could care less. I don't wear pjs but def comfy clothes.
This gave me the very best chuckle AND what a pleasant surprise that it all ended up so well💚💚💚.... makes me SO happy!!!! The photos are splendid and the Dragonfly is so cool😍... thanks for sharing. LOVE THE SELFIE 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 XOX!!! THANKS for this 💖 so much!!!!
Omg, you’re too cute in your bug gear. I always love the visual experience of your writing. I’m glad you’ve got the dragonflies to help!
It seems like ages since I've been to the Pond! Thx for reading, dear friend. Lots of Dragonflies lately but they must be overwhelmed! XOXO

Love being here!! 🥰 🤗 🥰
Thank you for taking us along with you, on your walk, Barbara. Yes, time in Nature is always worth whatever adjustments or annoyances that come up.
That Dragon Fly!! XO
PS. - I miss certain trees and rivers all the time.
I know! That Dragonfly was with me on my Patio Prison (not!) for quite a while. What a gift.
Yes to missing Trees and Rivers and all. Thx for reading, dear Kathleen. 💚

😂😂 Yes, no symbolism intended, EG, and you summed up my intent very well! Thx for reading and leaving a comment! 💚
The deer flies are driving me crazy these days!
They are vicious in their quest for our blood! Persistent little buggers... :(
Thx for reading, Nina! 💚
