Hi Barbara, this was a lovely post. Thank you. I love all your advice and the easy way you deliver it, for instance: "Maybe we should stop thinking so much about healing and more about just living our best life, finding what brings us joy and purpose that leads us to a more conscious way of being." I have thought after reading all the "stuff" that's out there, that there's no way I can do all that, or that, or make it a daily practice. That's why that sentence I quoted above appealed to me so much. I will take it to heart and just follow my instincts, especially doing what brings me joy and purpose. I'm working on something now and it feels right. We'll see. Just one step at a time. Happy Thanksgiving.
Thanks, Rocket! And, that was my favorite advice to myself. :) The Sagittarian in me wants to learn and learn and teach and teach but I always need to remember just to BE.
Somehow you came up on my feed and I throughly enjoyed this muse about life. I do have to say, I kept saying to myself, ‘ this is me’. Too bad we are on opposite ends of the country because I know we have much in common. Regarding light, this interview is one of many that explains a lot about how important sunlight is. https://youtu.be/KNigP1GInNw?si=umpt7-OevglFGw74
Thank you, Katherine! I went down the cereal aisle that day just to take photos! I was shocked at how bad it's gotten...a version of Trix filled with "vanilla creme."
Just a friendly reminder that garlic, like onions, grapes, wine, balsamic vinegar, nuts, candy (xylitol), and of course chocolate, are among the human foods that are toxic to our doggies
I'm with Tonika... Gone-Away Pond transported me to another realm entirely. It felt like a Monet come to vibrating life!
This whole essay vibrates with good will and healing. I think Hawkins would score it VERY HIGH. 😉 (I loved his "Power vs Force;" I learned about him from my teacher Judy -- you'll learn about her if you happen to read my latest.) You bring together so many elemental aspects of healing that are simple but very effective! You and I have many of the same habits, though I aspire to less screen time -- particularly in the evening. Speaking of which, I'd better close this laptop and open a book. Old habits die hard! xox
Thank you, Mary! Don't we all aspire to less screen time? I do really well not being on it at night because it just grosses me out now...emails and such. My body literally knows when I've had enough. Yes, old habits die hard. I just ordered a couple of those light bulbs that block blue/green light so I can read at night (4PM!!) Candles just don't cut it. :) I'm headed to your post this very moment! I was just trying to get some writing done first. XOXO
I've noticed the quality of my sleep has improved since I've reduced the evening screen stuff. It's also improved since I decided to take concrete action to build the life I want to have. Go figure! 😂
Absolutely! In Africa our friends have a 'wet' kitchen. It is where they do all the work and have the mess. The fridge is in there too. I love that...because of all the 'things' in my house that mess with me, it is that constant hum. I already live in a dark and quiet place and use blue blockers. Luckily I have a big house and can get away from the noise of the old fridge. 20 years old, but I do not want a new one. Ever. Invasive technology. And the stuff in the pepto??!! YUCK. I never took it without protest. Now with all my label reading, I am one happy healthy camper. Your spring water looks wonderful as well. I could live where you do, no problem. Happy for you!♥♥
Oh, I love that, Sadie! Or do you go by Sadie Jay?? I love old appliances. I went years without a TV when I lived in NY. When I moved here I got a small old "dumb not smart" tv from the dump. It was perfect but just died and I think I'll just do without again. I'd rather go outside and look at the stars. Thx for reading and leaving a comment! XO
There's never been a better more necessary time to turn off the news and be still. I also think clear boundaries are key to our happiness and sanity. Getting older, makes them easier to put in place. Aging isn't all bad. Lol.
Wonderful post, full of wisdom-goodies, which I have come to expect from you!
The light piece! I have recently starting wearing blue-blockers for screens, and intend (not perfect at it) to avoid screens until after sun-up. So much better. And also dropped sunglasses couple years ago - I think my sight has improved too.
Thank you, Barbara for staying so true to you and giving us the benefit of what you know. XOXO
Thank you, Kathleen! I have so many posts backed up in my head (because it's Vata Season!) that I'm about to burst. So, your email might randomly start to fill up. I just cannot keep to a regular writing schedule. It just doesn't work for me.
I literally just placed an order here: https://www.blockbluelight.com/ They're having a sale and I got a few things including a better pair of the glasses because mine always fall off. Lately though I don't even need them because I just sit in candlelight and chill. Although it's happening at 4pm now. :)
I think I may have seen an email from both you and Mary. I've been negligent checking emails. I will save for manyana when I can truly savor them! XOXO
I'm very familiar with backed up posts, Barbara. I miss a lot I'm sure, somehow even keeping things pretty simple in my life - there's still more to get to than I get to.
Oh, well.
I love this time of year, don't really mind the early dark. The sunrise this morning was a stunner - and I thought of you taking it in. :-)
I look forward to whatever you 'cook' up in our next post. It's a true gift how effortlessly you expand, delight and re-orient your readers.❤️
Such a potent message offered in a time when we need it most Barbara. I'm so glad you're feeling better, and getting the effects of non-alternative medicine aka The Sun! Love that bathtub of water by the way - how old is it? Looks like something the Greeks would have had a ceremony over.
Wonderful post my friend, full of great advice and valuable insights.
Thanks, Gavin! I hope you are well! XO

Thanks for reading, L.L.! So glad you found your way to The Quaking Poplar. :)
TY for sharing the video. I will check it out later...headed into the woods now! 🌲🌲🌲
What a great post! Both informative AND inspiring. I especially love this: [re: photo of kids' cereal] "It looks like Halloween for breakfast."

YES! TY for that, Doug. 🐕 🐈
Wonderful post that I will read over and over!
Thank you🩷
Thank you, Lori! Both for taking the time to read and to leave a comment! So glad it resonated!

Isn't it all so amazing? And what a time to be alive...in spite of all the crazy negativity, I feel hopeful. XOXO
Me, too. xox!
Watching and listening to Gone-Away Pond is mesmerising! I’m so glad to have a piece of it with me. And little Barbara on the phone! What a treat!
Beautiful message for us city folk, Barbara. Especially as the weather turns and city dwellers turn into hermits. Thank you, dear!
Thanks for reading, Tonika! I was Barbie back then 😳. Took me years to get them to stop calling me that. XOXO

Right??! I'm starting to really dig being called an Elder. :) And yes to the boundaries!
Thx for reading, Heide! XOXO

Circa 1905! 💦💦 I'm so blessed to have it just down the road. I always sing to her when I get water. :)
Thanks for reading, Roman, and for all the great info you provide! XO
Absolutely Barbara!
